What is the PFT?
The Physical Fitness Test (PFT) is a standardised assessment used by the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, NDA, CDS, and state police services to evaluate a candidate's physical fitness. It typically consists of a timed run, push-ups, and sit-ups.
Standard Benchmarks — PFT Score Sheet
The table below works as a PFT score sheet / score chart: find your event, then match your run time or rep count to the Outstanding, Good, or Average column.
| Event | Outstanding | Good | Average |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1.6 km Run | ≤ 6:30 | ≤ 7:00 | ≤ 8:00 |
| 2.4 km Run | ≤ 10:00 | ≤ 11:00 | ≤ 12:00 |
| Push-ups (2 min) | ≥ 40 | ≥ 30 | ≥ 20 |
| Sit-ups (2 min) | ≥ 35 | ≥ 25 | ≥ 15 |
Example
A candidate running 1.6km in 6:45, doing 35 push-ups, and 30 sit-ups in 2 minutes would land in the "Good" category across most events.
Common Use Cases
- Tracking training progress ahead of NDA, CDS, or police PFT assessments.
- Comparing your run time, push-ups, and sit-ups against Outstanding/Good/Average benchmarks.
FAQs
Where is the PFT score sheet?
The "Standard Benchmarks — PFT Score Sheet" table above lists Outstanding, Good, and Average cutoffs for the 1.6km run, 2.4km run, push-ups, and sit-ups. Enter your results in the calculator to get your grade instantly instead of looking them up by hand.
How does PFT scoring work?
Each event — run time, push-up count, sit-up count — is scored independently against the thresholds in the score sheet above (Outstanding, Good, Average, Below Standard). Your overall PFT grade is set by your weakest event, so a fast run won't offset a Below Standard push-up count.
Do all services use the same PFT standards?
No — exact distances, time limits, and rep counts vary slightly between the Army, Navy, Air Force, NDA, CDS, and state police recruitment boards. Always check the specific notification for your exam.
