What is the CFT?
The Combat Fitness Test (CFT) evaluates a soldier's ability to perform physically demanding tasks under simulated combat conditions. It is a more advanced and operationally realistic test compared to the standard Physical Fitness Test (PFT). Indian Army and paramilitary forces use CFT to assess combat readiness.
CFT Events
- Tactical March (5 miles / ~8 km): A timed march in full combat gear, testing endurance and load-bearing capacity.
- Ammo Can Lifts: Overhead pressing a 30 lb ammunition can for 2 minutes — simulates re-loading and supply tasks.
- 300m Shuttle Run: A 300-metre sprint with direction changes, simulating tactical movement on the battlefield.
- Casualty Drag: Dragging a simulated casualty a set distance, testing functional strength under pressure.
CFT Score Chart / Table (Standard Benchmarks)
The table below is the full CFT score chart — use it to see exactly which band (Outstanding, Good, or Average) each of your event results falls into.
| Event | Outstanding | Good | Average |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tactical March (5 mi) | ≤ 70:00 | ≤ 80:00 | ≤ 90:00 |
| Ammo Can Lifts | ≥ 80 reps | ≥ 60 reps | ≥ 40 reps |
| 300m Shuttle Run | ≤ 1:10 | ≤ 1:20 | ≤ 1:35 |
| Casualty Drag | ≥ 5 sets | ≥ 4 sets | ≥ 3 sets |
Example
A candidate finishing the 5-mile tactical march in 75 minutes, 65 ammo can lifts, a 1:15 shuttle run, and 4 casualty drag sets would land in the "Good" category across most events.
Common Use Cases
- Tracking training progress ahead of an official CFT assessment.
- Understanding where you stand against Outstanding/Good/Average benchmarks.
FAQs
Where is the CFT score chart / table?
The "CFT Score Chart / Table" section above lists the Outstanding, Good, and Average bands for every event — tactical march, ammo can lifts, 300m shuttle run, and casualty drag. Enter your own numbers in the calculator to see your grade against that chart instantly.
How is the CFT different from the PFT?
The PFT measures general fitness (running, push-ups, sit-ups), while the CFT tests combat-specific tasks under load — tactical marching, lifting, sprinting, and casualty drags — closer to real operational demands.
